Evolution of Gaming through the Ages

Gaming originated as a synonym for “gambling “. In modern times, gaming has become an individual part of the day to day activities of youth. Many groups of people also criticize games because of the concern that has aroused that youths are getting addicted to games. Apart from entertainment, games are also used for educational purposes. As such, many puzzles, quiz games etc, developed which makes the learning process interesting. Games are even used for commercial purposes for earning money. Many gamers stream their gaming session live to earn money ,while many other gamers compete with other players. Gaming has also accelerated the development process of hardware peripherals such as gaming consoles, CPU, graphics card and many more. Nowadays, technological development has became so advanced that simulated gaming has become available to common people.

Types of online games

There are many variations of computer games that are played online. These include first-person games, action games and real-time strategy games. The real-time ones are based on multiplayer games played over a modem or local network. An example of the real-time strategy game is The Age of Empires.

In addition, there are also browser-based games that use the web browser as a client. Step by step, with the development of graphic technologies like Flash and Java, more complex games were introduced. They are now becoming increasingly popular as Flash games and Java games are now dominating our world.

• First-person shooter game (FPS)

During the 1990s, online games started to move from a wide variety of LAN protocols (such as IPX) and onto the Internet using the TCP/IP protocol. Doom popularized the concept of a deathmatch, where multiple players battle each other head-to-head, as a new form of online game. Since Doom, many first-person shooter games contain online components to allow deathmatch or arena style play. And by popularity, first person shooter games are becoming more and more widespread around the world. The kind of games that are played at the more popular competitions are Counter-StrikeHaloCall of Duty: Advanced WarfareQuake Live and Unreal Tournament. Competitions have a range of winnings from money to hardware. Expansion of hero shooters, a subgenre of shooter games, happened in 2016 when several developers released or announced their hero shooter multiplayer online game (BattlebornOverwatch, and Paladins).

The latest video game doing the rounds is Counter Strike Global Offensive.
